Miss First Nation
Australia’s National Pageant for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Drag Entertainers.
Miss First Nation is Australia’s groundbreaking national drag pageant exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander drag performers. Created in 2017 by the team at Party Passport, the event was born out of a desire to celebrate culture, identity, and performance, while making space for queer First Nations communities to shine.
What began as a bold idea in Darwin has grown into a national platform that proudly showcases First Nations drag excellence. Now co-presented by Party Passport and BRG Productions, Miss First Nation continues to provide a culturally safe space where fierce artistry meets deep connection.

Yirramboi Festival May 8th – 11th

In early May 2019, 8 of Australia’s deadliest Indigenous Queens headed to Melbourne from all corners of the country to compete for the Miss First Nation crown. Held during Melbourne’s Yirramboi Festival, over 4 days the contestants posed, sashayed and strut their stuff in a series of heats across the city.
The Grand Final featured fabulous guest judges, Miss First Nation Taiwan Rose Mary and a fabulous surprise performance by Electric Fields. The evening culminated in the crowning of Brisbane dynamite Chocolate Boxx who was crowned Miss First Nation 2019!

black divaz film
BLACK DIVAZ goes behind the glitz, glamour and hot glue guns of the inaugural Miss First Nation pageant held in Darwin, Northern Territory.
BLACK DIVAZ is a film that goes beyond the glitz, glue guns and glamour of BLACK DRAG to reveal a fun, fabulous and sometimes fearful place especially if you are an Indigenous man in a country where identity is constantly examined. – “And you thought PRISCILLA was the only Queen in the Desert!”
Over 5 steamy days in the top end of Australia 6 contestants battled it out in fierce lip synching battles, photo shoots with crocodiles and challenges that will see each contestant stretch more than just their wardrobe choices. What does it take to be crowned the winner? Black Divaz follows each contestant as they talk candidly about what brought them to this glittering stage – their triumphs and tragedies and what being Miss First Nation means for them and their communities.
